Pekin Duck The Pekin breed is of Chinese origin, a country in which duck raising is extensively followed, especially in some districts. The first Pekins were imported to the United States about 1873. Reference: Platt, Frank L. 1925. All Breeds of Poultry, Origin: History: Description, Mating and Characteristics. American Poultry Journal. Chicago. Pekin ducks grow rapidly, reaching approximately 90% of their adult weight at 7 weeks of age, when properly fed. It is not uncommon for commercially grown Pekin ducks to weight 7 lb. (3.2 kg) at 7 weeks of age. The meat from Pekin ducks is very tender and succulent and known worldwide for its delicious taste.
